Disney Lorcana was introduced to retailers and other industry partners at the 2023 GAMA Expo as an in-development trading card game, giving attendees an early look at the gameplay, artwork, and collectible direction of the TCG.  At the event, Ravensburger hosted guided play experiences using specially prepared demo decks.  Marked by distinctive “DEMO” labeling on the card back, these cards were printed in very small quantities and most were returned to Ravensburger for destruction after the event.

To facilitate quick learning and shorter play sessions, two simplified demo decks were used: a 40-card Amber-Amethyst deck and a 40-card Sapphire-Steel deck.  These decks included a subset of the cards in the 60-card starter decks that were ultimately released with "The First Chapter".  The smaller decks allowed games to move faster and made it easier for new players to grasp core mechanics quickly.

While most of the demo decks were reclaimed and destroyed after the event, a small number made it out into the wild.  Their survival was never part of the original distribution plan, resulting in extremely limited supply.  As of this writing, fewer than 25 copies of many of these cards are known to exist.  These cards are some of the earliest surviving artifacts of Disney Lorcana’s development.
